Celebrating their 10th season, the Folsom Lake Civic Ballet, under the direction of Artistic Director, Deirdre Hawkins, presented the full length story ballet production of "Cinderella." Four performances were held April 26th, 27th, May 3rd, 4th, 2008 at the Jill Solberg Performing Arts Theater, at Folsom High School.
The story of Cinderella has long been one of the most popular fairy tales ever written. The story captures the dream of a young girl to become a princess. A beautiful and humble young woman, Cinderella, is covered in ashes from sweeping and cleaning. She is banned by her stepsisters and stepmother from attending the ball presented by the King and Queen. However, the kindness and love that Cinderella extends to a poor beggar woman (who is her Fairy Godmother in disguise) transforms the young cinder girl and her enchanting dream begins.
The ballet is set to the score by Sergei Prokofiev and was first presented in 1945 by the Bolshoi Ballet, Moscow. The current FLCB production is choreographed by Deirdre Hawkins and is expertly executed by the talented dancers of the Folsom Lake Civic Ballet. Beautiful costumes and creative stage design add to the magical tale of Cinderella. This classic fairytale, told through dance, is filled with magical moments, comedy and grace.
